LiveBarn & Arena Spectator Update

Sep. 12, 2020

Good Evening,

Given some of the recent conversations happening around the implementation of the LiveBarn web streaming service in local arenas, we felt it necessary to share some timely information with our LMHA member families and volunteers.

For those unfamiliar, LiveBarn is a subscription-based streaming service that allows fans to watch LMHA hockey activities and other approved arena events online. The LMHA Board of Directors wish to be clear in stating this is not a City of Lloydminster initiative. The LiveBarn platform was reviewed by the LMHA Board of Directors last September and at that time the Board was in favor of implementing the platform. The implementation included installation of cameras in City arenas, which was completed with the approval and cooperation of the City of Lloydminster over the past few months.

Even before COVID-19 was on our radar, the Board felt LiveBarn presented a great opportunity for our members and their families - particularly for busy parents and other family members who aren’t always able to attend games in person.

The installation of LiveBarn was set to be completed in March of 2020, prior to COVID-19 shutting down our facilities in Lloydminster.

The LMHA is in constant communication with the City of Lloydminster regarding the potential of opening the arenas for viewing purposes and are working together to elevate concerns and develop strategies to manage this option in partnership with each of the City of Lloydminster facilities.

Earlier this week, the City shared an outline of how we - as arena users - can support the return of a limited number of spectators to hockey activities. We are currently reviewing this plan and are pleased to be collaborating with the City to gradually restore normalcy within our minor hockey community.

If our arenas are to successfully re-open to LMHA members and spectators, it is important we understand and respect all restrictions and guidelines, which are designed to keep our families, fans and volunteers safe so hockey can continue to be a recreational option for our children.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate these uncharted waters.

Sincerely,

The LMHA Board of Directors
